002. The collection - prelude part 1: a midsummer night’s dream
01 /
Every brand has a story, a journey marked by moments of inspiration, experimentation, and rediscovery. For Eden and Sable, this journey weaves through personal history, creative growth, and the timeless allure of nature and imagination. What began as a personal project evolved into a collection inspired by the fairies and magic of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Let’s take a stroll through this journey, from past to present, where each stitch holds a tale and every design is infused with a touch of whimsy.

From Past to Present — The journey began long before the present moment. When I first envisioned these designs, they were part of my Resort 2018 collection, a natural evolution from the very first piece I created for my sister just three years earlier. Back then, I made her a one-piece lacy, high-cut swimsuit, her absolute favorite style. But as I started thinking seriously about launching Eden and Sable, I realized I needed a collection, not just a standalone design. I wanted pieces that could be mixed and matched, reflecting a customer’s mood and style at any moment.
This sparked the creation of a crop top and bikini bottom, crafted with the same delicate technique as the original swimsuit. This trio formed the seed of my collection. But truthfully, back in 2018, my scatterbrain tendencies took over. I veered off course, creating more designs that felt disconnected from the first three. After the initial trio, I shifted into a two-color pattern phase, adding three more pieces that didn’t quite harmonize with the originals.
Looking back, I realized I needed a more cohesive narrative. This realization led to Prelude Part 1, a name that symbolizes everything that came before. Instead of scrapping my past work, I chose to honor it, elaborating on what already existed and splitting the original collection into two parts: Part 1, dedicated to the lace-inspired designs, and Part 2—a mystery still to be revealed. These lace creations, intricate and enchanting, eventually transformed into the Midsummer Dream collection.

The Present — Ten years into this journey, I felt Eden and Sable needed a rebirth, a revitalization of the brand, infused with a fresh vision and creative energy. I spent time contemplating how I wanted to present this renewed identity to the world.
A glance at my Instagram tells a story of minimalism, clean lines, plenty of white space, and a calm, uncluttered aesthetic. It resonated with the trends of the time and still feels relevant. My website followed this simplicity, believing it offered a smooth browsing experience. But I soon realized that Eden and Sable’s return couldn’t be dictated by trends or what everyone else was doing. The brand had to reflect my thoughts, my dreams, and my creative essence.
Inspiration strikes me from everywhere, my surroundings, a line in a movie, a lyric in a song. Ideas often arrive so fast I need to scribble them down before they vanish. While my scatterbrained nature may not make for a streamlined brand identity, I decided it could shape Eden and Sable into something unique, collections conjured from fantastical realms, driven by whimsy, spontaneity, and dreams.
As I revisited the intricate floral motifs of the Resort 2018 collection, I noticed how they were connected by delicate crochet chains and stitches that resembled vines wrapping around the body. They evoked images of forest nymphs weaving garments from the forest itself. This vision led me to my favorite Shakespearean play: A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The Concept — Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a delightful comedy brimming with love, mischief, and enchantment. Set in a magical forest near Athens, the play follows four young lovers whose affections are thrown into chaos by a mischievous fairy, Puck. Meanwhile, Oberon and Titania, the fairy king and queen, quarrel over a changeling boy, and a group of bumbling tradesmen prepare a play for the Duke’s wedding. Through a series of enchantments and misunderstandings, true love is tested and transformed. Ultimately, the play celebrates the transformative power of love and the magic of the natural world.

I’ve watched Michael Hoffman’s 1999 film adaptation, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, more times than I can count—I can even recite lines by heart (yes, even in old English!). While the play focuses on the human characters and their romantic entanglements, I was always captivated by the subtle glimpses into the fairy world. That fascination sparked the idea to reimagine my collection through the lens of these whimsical fairies.
Thus, the Midsummer Dream collection was born—or perhaps, it was always destined to fit into this fantastical realm. Using the intricate Irish lace crochet technique, the collection’s floral motifs represent delicate forest blooms, while the connecting chains and stitches evoke vines and webs that tie nature’s elements into wearable art. It’s how I imagine forest fairies crafting their garments—not with thread and machines, but by gathering forest elements to create something raw, organic, and magical.
The colors of this collection reflect this enchanted world: shades like Mustardseed, Cobweb, and Moth, named after fairies in the play. The mythical pansy—the flower used to enchant Titania—adds another touch of mischief. What if, today, a drop of pansy could make someone fall in love at first sight? What chaos might ensue?
Our color palette—ranging from soft pinks and pale greens to vibrant yellows, oranges, and deep teals—brings the woodland fairy community to life. These colors embody delicate emotions, passionate feelings, and eccentric personalities. I want customers to feel this magic when choosing their styles and colors.
The designs themselves reflect the whimsy of the fairies—not purely practical, but undeniably fantastical. Yet don’t be fooled into thinking they’re just whimsical 😉—each piece is made with care, designed to fit beautifully and comfortably.
